SMARTPACK P-OTN Family

The SMARTPACK P-OTN family of solutions builds on existing reference designs and integration of critical modules from these designs to provide a wide range of optional reference configurations for system development.

The SMARTPACK P-OTN family of solutions consists of both stand-alone chip solutions offering a single functional module and highly integrated chip solutions based on a combination of several modules.

The reference solutions are based on existing TPACK products, but also new functions, such as Optical Transport Network (OTN) support - a critical new module for P-OTN applications.

The following diagram shows the current reference configurations planned for the SMARTPACK P-OTN family. However, note that other combinations are possible.

As can be seen in the diagram, existing SMARTPACK products are included in the SMARTPACK P-OTN family as these can be combined in a linecard design to provide critical P-OTN functions.

For example, the TPX3103 Carrier Packet Engine can provide Connection Oriented Ethernet support while the TPW192-S Packet Mapper can provide NG-SONET/SDH support. These fucntions can also integrated into a single chip solution, as in the TPWX3192 Carrier Packet Mapper Engine.

Alternatively, OTN support can be introduced as an alternative to NG-SONET/SDH support leading to the TPOX3203 Packet Optical Engine. This provides an OTU2 interface with standard and enhanced FEC support.

All of these functions can be combined in a single integrated device along with OTN cross-connect functionality, as shown in the TPOX4214 Packet Optical Engine solution.

To see how all of these reference solutions can be used in various P-OTP designs see SMARTPACK P-OTN Applications.
