SMARTPACK P-OTN
SMARTPACK P-OTN is a family of SOFTSYSTEM solutions for Packet Optical Transport Network (P-OTN) applications. Flexibly integrate modules with Connection Oriented Ethernet, OTN and SONET/SDH functionality to fit your system architecture.
SMARTPACK P-OTN solutions allow systems to be developed with a flexible mix of TDM and packet traffic. The ability to support switching of various layer 2 packet protocols as well as optical transmission protocols in the same system allows carriers to gradually migrate their various networks to an all-packet infrastructure.
SMARTPACK P-OTN is a series of SOFTSYSTEM Solutions designed specifically for Packet Optical Transport Network (P-OTN) applications. Combining modules with Connection Oriented Ethernet (PBB-TE, T-MPLS and PWE3/VPLS) with OTN and SONET/SDH support in different reference chip configurations allows system vendors to choose the solution that best fits their system architecture needs.
For an overview of the SMARTPACK P-OTN family, see here.
SMARTPACK P-OTN solutions are based on the following modules:
Connection Oriented Ethernet module
Functionality similar to that which is available in the TPX3103 Carrier Packet Engine and related SMARTPACK application and management software products. This module supports packet processing and traffic management of PBB-TE, T-MPLS and MPLS-based PWE3 and VPLS. These are the most significant layer 2 packet protocols currently available and are collectively referred to as Connection Oriented Ethernet.
Optical Transport Network (OTN) module
Packet mapping and crossconnect functionality for ITU-T G.709 OTN traffic. This module can be combined with the Connection Oriented Ethernet module to allow effective transport of Carrier Ethernet over OTN.
An important feature of this module is the availability of both standard and enhanced Forward Error Correction (FEC) mechanisms to allow high-speed transmission over longer distances.
SONET/SDH module
Given that SONET/SDH is the current preferred optical transport mechanism, it is important to support termination, transport and packet mapping to SONET/SDH. This enables a smooth migration to both OTN and Carrier Ethernet as well as providing vital gateway/service interworking functions during migration.
These modules can be combined in various ways to fit exactly the system configuration required. See more here.
