Understanding TPACK SOFTSYSTEM

The TPACK SOFTSYSTEM Concept is based on FPGA images and supporting software, which are combined to form a software solution that telecom equipment vendors can integrate into their systems with minimal risk and effort.

A SOFTSYSTEM is a software based system solution designed for quick and easy adaptation. It takes advantage of re-programmable Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) as opposed to fixed Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) chips. This allows full flexibility in feature and interface implementation, as well as adaptation in a fraction of the time and cost associated with ASIC development.

A SOFTSYSTEM is developed, integrated and tested at system level allowing common system implementation issues to be recognized and amended before delivery to the customer. This saves time and resources for Telecom Equipment Vendor customers.

A SOFTSYSTEM includes:

  • FPGA image software defining solution features and interfaces
  • High-Level Driver Software with intuitive Application Programming Interface (API) designed to hide the complexity of chip configuration
  • Application Software: Software required for controlling the operation of the system
  • Management Software: Management Information Base (MIB) and agent software (e.g. Command Line Interface (CLI) and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agents)
  • Hardware reference board design based on SOFTSILICON including integration and testing of external CPU, memory devices, power supplies and other chips
  • Reference System for demonstration and evaluation including reference board, Application and Management Software all pre-integrated and pre-tested.

A Telecom Equipment Manufacturer can integrate a SOFTSYSTEM into a new or existing system platform taking advantage of TPACK's experience and the proven solution that the SOFTSYSTEM provides, while also enjoying the benefits of full flexibility in adaptation and customization.

SMARTPACK is TPACK's family of SOFTSYSTEM Solutions for carrier class packet transport. See SMARTPACK Solutions for more information.

TPACK Reference Systems

TPACK Reference Systems are SOFTSYSTEM implementations used for customer evaluation, demonstration, certification and interoperability testing.

They provide a starting point for Telecom Equipment Vendors who wish to develop a Carrier Ethernet solution quickly with low risk, without sacrificing future flexibility.
