TPACK's New 40Gbps Ethernet/MPLS Switch Solution

Paris, Feb 9 2006: A new 40Gbps Ethernet/MPLS Switch Solution has been presented by TPACK at the MPLS World Congress. Based on a unique redundancy solution and logical switching of Ethernet, MPLS, VPLS and SONET/SDH, is one of the very first Switch solutions to provide support for Metro Ethernet Forum’s 5 Carrier Ethernet attributes of Reliability, Scalability, Hard Quality of Service, Service Management and TDM support.

As multiple services are now being offered over the same customer connection, carriers need service delivery infrastructure solutions that ensure that these services are not interrupted. This requires a higher level of redundancy and protection than is normally seen in the Ethernet domain.

TPACK’s new 40Gbps Ethernet/MPLS Switch solution addresses these issues with a unique redundant switch design. Based on the new TPX3000 Ethernet/MPLS combined packet engine and traffic manager, the solution provides non-blocking packet switch capacity of 40Gbps with automatic failover to 20Gbps in the event of an error. The TPX3000 includes integrated MAC interfaces for 10/100/1000 Ethernet and 10G Ethernet. Combined with advanced equipment protection and user access line redundancy, all affected traffic can immediately be switched without affecting the end-user experience.

The TPX3000 also provides highly advanced Quality of Management features such as traffic shaping, policing and queuing. Combined with support for Ethernet OAM and MPLS OAM, as well as extensive counter support, the TPX3000 provides true Carrier Class service management support. TPACK was one of the first 16 companies to receive MEF certification for support of MEF E-LINE and E-LAN services.

The TPX3000 is based on an FPGA design allowing Rapid Time to Market and the ability to accommodate customizations. This flexibility and speed is crucial in today’s Carrier Ethernet market where many standards are still in draft form and open to change. Customer specific features can also be accommodated to allow customers to retain a competitive, differentiating edge. The FPGA design can be converted to a pin- and feature compatible structured ASIC (HardCopy) providing competitive prices per unit in production.
